MVP Launch Checklist: 15 Tasks You Can't Skip

MVP Launch Checklist: 15 Tasks You Can't Skip

Most MVPs don't fail because of bad ideas. They fail because of bad launches.

You spend weeks, sometimes months, building. Then you rush the final 10%, skip half the housekeeping, and push live. Within 48 hours you're firefighting bugs you didn't know existed, flying blind without analytics, and chasing feedback you have no system to capture. This 'MVP launch checklist' is built to stop that from happening. Work through these 15 tasks before you go live and you'll launch with confidence, not crossed fingers.

MVP CHECKLIST: 15 Tasks You Can't Skip
MVP CHECKLIST: 15 Tasks You Can't Skip

"What is an MVP launch checklist?" An MVP launch checklist is a structured list of tasks a founder must complete before releasing their minimum viable product to the public. It covers technical readiness, basic legal compliance, analytics setup, and feedback mechanisms ensuring nothing critical is missed before real users arrive.

Why Most MVP Launches Go Wrong

The problem isn't usually the product. It's the preparation or the lack of it.  Most first-time founders treat launch day as the finish line. It isn't. It's the starting gun for a sprint of user observation, rapid iteration, and signal collection. If you haven't set up the right infrastructure before you launch, you'll be building it during the most important 72 hours of your product's early life.

The 15 tasks below are split into four categories: "Technical", "Legal & Compliance", "Analytics & Tracking", and "Feedback & Iteration". Work through each section in order.

Technical Readiness (Tasks 1–5)

These are the non-negotiables. If any of these are broken, your launch is effectively broken.

1. Error monitoring is live. Set up a tool like Sentry or LogRocket before you launch not after. You need to know about errors the moment they happen, not when a user tweets about them.

2. Your app works on mobile. Test every critical user flow on at least two mobile browsers. A significant portion of your first users will arrive on mobile, especially if you're driving traffic from social.

3. Page load speed is under 3 seconds. Use Google PageSpeed Insights. Slow load times kill conversions before users ever see your product.

4. You have a working signup/onboarding flow end-to-end. Sign up as a new user yourself. Then get three people who've never seen your product to do the same. Watch where they get confused.

5. Your domain, SSL, and email deliverability are all set up correctly. Transactional emails (welcome, password reset) must land in inboxes, not spam folders. Test this with multiple providers.

Legal & Compliance (Tasks 6–8)

You don't need a team of lawyers to launch. But you do need these basics in place.

6. Privacy Policy is live and linked in your footer. If you're collecting any user data, and you are, you need a privacy policy. This is a legal requirement in the UK (UK GDPR) and most US states. Use a generator if you must, but get it done.

7. Terms of Service or Terms of Use are published. Protects you from misuse and sets expectations. Even a simple one-page document is better than nothing.

8. Cookie consent is implemented (UK/EU users). If you're targeting UK or European users, you need a compliant cookie banner. Don't launch without it.

Analytics & Tracking (Tasks 9–11)

"What analytics should you set up before MVP launch?" At minimum, founders need a page-view tracker (Google Analytics 4 or Plausible), a funnel/conversion event tracker, and session recording. These three tools together tell you who's arriving, where they're dropping off, and what they're actually doing. Its the essential data for your first post-launch iteration sprint.

If you're building blind, you can't iterate with confidence. Set these up *before* launch day.

9. Page-view analytics are installed and firing correctly. Google Analytics 4 or Plausible (privacy-first) are both solid choices. Verify events are coming through in real-time view before you go live.

10. Conversion events are tracked. What does a successful user session look like? Signup completed? First feature used? Map 3–5 key events and verify they're firing. These are your early north-star metrics.

11. Session recording is enabled. Tools like Hotjar or Microsoft Clarity record actual user sessions. Watching five real sessions will teach you more than any survey. They're free to start.

Feedback & Iteration Infrastructure (Tasks 12–15)

This is the section most founders skip. Don't.

12. You have a structured way to collect user feedback. An in-app widget (Canny, Typeform, or even a simple mailto link) ensures feedback goes somewhere you can act on it — not into a void.

13. You've defined your "first week" success metric. Pick one number that matters most in week one: signups, activated users, DAU, or something else. Write it down before you launch. This is your anchor for deciding whether the launch worked.

14. You have a post-launch communication plan. Who are you telling, and in what order? First 10 users → beta group → product communities → social. Having a sequenced plan means you're building momentum deliberately, not randomly.

15. You've planned your first follow-up sprint. Block time in your calendar — ideally within 72 hours of launch — to review your analytics, watch session recordings, and triage feedback. Launch isn't the end of the process; it's the first data point.

What Happens If You Skip Steps?

The short answer: you'll find out the hard way.

The most common MVP launch mistakes include shipping without error tracking, skipping a privacy policy, and failing to set up conversion analytics. A pre-launch checklist forces you to address each of these systematically, reducing the risk of a chaotic first week and increasing your chances of capturing early user signal cleanly.

Without error monitoring, bugs stay hidden. Without analytics, you're guessing at user behaviour. Without legal basics, you're exposed. And without a feedback system, you'll spend the first week fielding questions in DMs with no structured way to act on what you're hearing.

None of these tasks take long. The full list above is a day's work, at most. The cost of skipping any one of them can be weeks of recovery time.

Launch Ready. Now What?

Working through this list puts you ahead of the majority of first-time founders. Most launch and then scramble. You're doing the opposite. You're laying the groundwork so that the moment users arrive, you're already learning.

The LettsGroup platform, powered by the Innov@te™ framework, includes launch readiness guidance, product feedback tools, and analytics dashboards built specifically for early-stage founders. You don't have to hold 15 browser tabs open and Google everything from scratch.
